We hauled Santosha out of the water for a bottom painting and maintenance. There was plenty of damage from what the previous owner called a “soft landing” on a well known and well marked rocky reef in the San Juan Islands. “Soft landing”, my foot! It appears that barnacle encrusted rocks just raked the keel.
Also, the propeller has a lot of corrosion – likely the result of poorly maintained sacrificial zincs.
- getting into the slings
- coming out of the drink
- prop and rudder
- corrosion and barnacles
- still have some zinc left after 10 months
- barnacles growing on the propeller and corrosion
- keel forefoot damage
- paddle wheel with slime
- paddle wheel – used to measure boat speed
- the Catalina smile – a crack at the hull/keel joint
- keel forefoot
- trailing edge of the keel
- looks like barnacles on a rock did the keel in
- aft end of the keel
