It was a strange start to our vacation. We had asked a fellow to redo our dodger, sail cover, and wheel cover before our vacation started. He bid a very competitive price and was the manufacturer of our existing dodger which was in good shape except that the Lexan panels were yellowed and brittle. We thought it was ungainly as it was 72″ off the cockpit sole. Most boats are 67-67 ” off the sole.
So, we commisioned Mike Straub of Freestyle Canvas and Awning to redo the mess. He promised to have it done on Monday, 3 days ago. I had texted or called him nearly every day. He occasionally responded that he was “on track”. Sadly, he came up with excuse after excuse.
I feared today’s events – that I would arrive at the boat and see an empty dodger frame. At 6 AM this morning he called to say that he ran out of some critical item. He begged for yet more time and promised a noon delivery.
We readjusted our schedule and relaxed on our packing. We got to the boat around noon. Ther was just a frame and no dodger.
I was very dissapointed. Molly and I texted him. He called me shortly after Molly texted.
He said we could get on our way and he would sew in the afternoon and put the dodger on the boat in the morning.
Here we sit in Edmonds awaiting his arrival in the early morning. I’m trying hard to keep my hope and anger in check.
