I shouldn’t start this blog post with Camille’s name. But, it is important to note that Camille was not present and not the center of our universe this weekend. She was returned to us on Sunday night looking absolutely exhausted – perhaps like you’d see after sleep away camp. Her absence profoundly changed the family dynamics.
Without Camille around, Daniel had the chance to be the center of attention. He fluctuated between basking in it and wanting to nest with cushions and absorb entertainment from our smart phones.
We were on the pilings because the docks were full. The pilings are new to me and I mistakenly thought that tying up stern first would be best. I thought that because Santosha is more controllable in forward than reverse. But, as I found out, there is little control when there is no way on (forward or backward motion), because the keel cannot “bite” the water. Stupid me – fortunately an unknown couple in an inflatable with a Honda outboard rescued us and helped us tie up the bow line. Next time – bow (windward side) first! Another near catastrophe avoided! May there be few more.
