We took the bus from Los Cobanos to Sonsonate (a late sprawling city) and on up the mountains to the town of Juayua.

We took a tour out of Suchitoto with an English Speaking guide named Rene this morning. First we went on a boat on Lago Suchitlan to “Bird Island”. There were many roosting cormorants which the locals call “pig birds” due to their cries.

We had dinner at a very simple “papuseria” on the square in Suchitoto. Papusas are a stuffed corn tortilla and a national dish in El Salvador. The chef puts cheese, beans, and/or meat into some masa (corn meal dough) and then fries them on a griddle. This was served on a plate to be eaten [...]
